Time Laminations - Foley Gallery Exhibit 2023
This work explores the encroachment of generative A.I. imagery into what we traditionally understand as film and digital camerawork. The first experiments (mainly film) incorporated an iPad into the frame, partially blocking the view of the Real World. But I was interested in eroding reality further, so began integrating AI to open a portal into fictional worlds. The photographs are a combination of scanned film, digital capture, and A.I. image-to-image or text-to-image conversions. While the prints preserve and emphasize my compositions and aesthetic, the A.I. intrusions intentionally undermine this straight image-making to ask more questions.
The world of Fake News, augmented reality, deepfakes, etc., is fusing with our day-to-day lives, imperceptibly. In effect, these digital intrusions are becoming Experience itself.
